Odd Duck Audio
Specimen 23: a purple, spotted alien with three eyes on stalks lying across a homemade rack of five units: DRIVE, FILTERS, GATE, EQ and COMP, under a meter bridge with a cracked meter, a GR needle and a VU, and a fader at the foot

Up and Down arrows move a section one place; Home and End move it to the top or the bottom.

Channel Strip

Enrichment item for Specimen 23. Parts sourced locally. Do not unplug!

$15Drive · Filters · Gate · EQ · Comp · Gain · Fader

A whole channel strip off a broken old console, for anyone mixing a full session: drive, filters, gate, EQ and compressor, in any order you drag them, at zero latency and light enough for every track.

Drive has three stages. One is a soft input transformer, two a line amp run hot, and three is the console breaking: it splutters, sags and smokes. Every section has its own IN button, and a fresh instance starts with them all out, so it changes nothing until you press one.

Use it on

  • Every channel of a session, as the strip you reach for first.
  • A tracked kit with the gate on the toms and the compressor on the snare.
  • Anything that should sound wrecked, on stage 3.

System requirements

  • Formats: VST3, CLAP, LV2 and Standalone on every system; AU on macOS too.
  • Windows: 64-bit (x64). Installer, or a zip to install by hand.
  • macOS: 11 (Big Sur) or later, Apple Silicon and Intel. A signed, notarised installer, or a zip to install by hand.
  • Linux: x64. A zip.
  • Mono and stereo tracks.
  • Zero latency in every order and every drive stage, so it's safe while tracking.

Questions

Can I change the order of the sections?

Yes. Drag a section up or down the strip, or move it from the keyboard. The change crossfades, so there's no click, and the order is saved with the session and can be automated.

Does it get louder as I turn up Drive?

A little, on purpose: Drive is capped at about 6 dB of rise, so it colours more than it boosts. Nothing else on the strip matches its level unless you switch on the compressor's Auto.

What does Auto do?

It's the compressor's make-up done for you: with it on, the loudness holds as you move Threshold and Ratio. Off, Makeup is plain gain.

What happens when the trial ends?

The plugin stays in your sessions and passes audio through untouched until you activate it. It never goes silent, and your projects still open.

How many computers?

Up to three at once. You can release a computer from inside the plugin and activate another.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. Email support@oddduckaudio.com within 14 days of buying it, from the address you bought with, for a full refund.
